Summary
Konami’sSilent Hill 2remake andMetal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eatercould be coming toPlayStationin 2024. That’s according to Sony’s latest overview of some of the mosthighly anticipated upcoming PS5 games.
The reimagining ofSilent Hill 2was originallyannounced at the Silent Hill Transmission event in October 2022. Meanwhile,Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eaterwas first unveiled at the May 2023 PlayStation Showcase. WhileMGS Deltais largely an internal Konami project with some outside assistance, the Japanese gaming giant outsourced theSH2remake to Polish studio Bloober Team, the creator of theLayers of Fearfranchise and 2017 psychological horror gameObserver. Neither remake has yet been treated to an official release date or window.
Nevertheless, it appears that bothMetal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eaterand theSilent Hill 2remake could be hitting the PS5 before the end of this year. Namely, both titles are mentioned on a newly publishedPlayStation pageproviding an overview of the “biggest” games set to reach Sony’s latest console in 2024.
Big-Budget Remakes Possibly Coming to PS5 in 2024
As far as theSilent Hill 2remake is concerned, the notion of that game verging on completion makes sense, not least becauseBloober Team just announced an entirely different projectin late December. For clarity, the Polish company is a mid-sized studio with approximately 200 employees, according to publicly available LinkedIn data; that headcount combined with Bloober’s historical tendency to tackle one project at a time indicates that the studio likely wouldn’t be starting a new development effort if theSilent Hill 2remake wasn’t close to going gold.
The possibility ofMetal Gear Solid Deltareleasing sometime in 2024is more difficult to assess, as Konami was fairly secretive about that project up until recently. However, it is widely believed that theSnake Eaterremake has already been in development no later than the second half of 2021, which is when its existence was first reported on. A late 2024 release hence wouldn’t be outside the realm of possibility, as a three-year development cycle would be a fairly standard time frame for producing a modern remake of this sort.
TheSilent Hill 2remake has already been confirmed as a timed PS5 console exclusive that will also be launching on PC.Metal Gear Solid Deltawill be more widely available, with Konami previously confirming theSnake Eaterremake is planned to simultaneously launch onPlayStation, Xbox, and PC.
