Despite a rocky start,A Couple of Cuckoosmanage to deliver some very solid episodes for the past few weeks. After all, both episodes 3 and 4 are truly enjoyable to watch and move the story along quite nicely.
The question now becomes whether this series can keep its momentum going or not. So is this fifth episode as good as the previous ones? Let’s dive deeper into it in this review for episode 5 ofA Couple of Cuckoos.

Previously On A Couple of Cuckoos
There’s really a lot going on in the previous episode. The first half focused on Nagi’s interaction with Hiro, his crush and the smartest and the most popular girl at school. Since Nagi managed to steal the first spot from Hiro in the latest exam, he decided to confess his feelings to her. Unfortunately, Hiro said that she cannot reciprocate his feelings because she already has a fiancée. Although it was terrible news for Nagi, at least they both can freely talk like friends now.
The last half of episode 4 focused mostly on Sachi,Nagi’s sister and Erika’s biological sister, who comes to visit the house where Nagi and Erika live together. It was a very nerve racking moment for both girls. Any attempts by Nagi to defuse the situation ended up making things worse, which was hilarious. Thankfully Erika and Sachi managed to open up a bit to each other, and they quickly became closer.
Can We Study Together in The Morning…?
Episode 5 saw a major development in the story of Nagi andhis potential love interests, particularly Erika and Hiro. Continuing from the last episode, despite getting rejected, Nagi now found himself having a morning study session together with Hiro. She seems to really enjoy his company, which makes him think that there is still a sliver of hope for Hiro to reciprocate his feelings.
While that is a great way to start the episode, the highlight comes about a quarter into the episode. Unbeknownst to everybody, Erika suddenly appears and becomes a transfer student at Nagi’s school, and she also becomes a classmate to Nagi and Hiro. So now the fiancée and the crush have come together in the same place. What’s even better is the fact thatthe two of them became fast friends. To see Nagi freaking out over the whole situation is simply hilarious.
The Plot Thickens
As mentioned before, the highlight of this episode is when Erika finally meets Hiro. Needless to say, none of them are aware of each other’s connection to Nagi, so they simply consider their meetings as a graceful introduction to a new friend.
To Nagi, however, things couldn’t be more nerve wracking. Hiro is the girl that he has had a crush on for a while, and now, after being strangers for so long, they finally get to talk and spend sometime together as close friends. On the other hand, Nagi might not feel a deep romantic feeling for Erika yet, but she is still his legitimate fiancée.
So when he imagines the two of them finding out the truth of his relationship with both of them, he is sure that he will be the most hated man in the world. Watching Nagi trying to sort of explain the whole situation to Erika, which always ends up in failure because she always hangs out with Hiro,is simply hilarious.
A Proper Cliffhanger
A Couple of Cuckooshas churned out some superb episodes lately, but for the most part, all of them are quite episodic. This means they are mainly standalone stories that are only slightly connected by the overall plot of the series.
None of them are really set to make the viewers truly wonder about what will happen next. That is when episode 5 comes around and changes the formula. This is the episode in the series that trulyended with a proper cliffhanger. While this review will not spoil how this episode ended, just know that when you watch it, you will be eager to know what will happen next.
Episode 5 marks a very important milestone for the series. This is the episode where the viewers can truly look forward to the next episode due to the great cliffhanger while still providinga perfect balance of humor and heartwarming momentsat the same time.
For those of you who still hesitate to followA Couple of Cuckoos, this episode should be able to convince you to start watching this series. For others who have been following this RomCom for a while, the hype leading into the next episode should be pretty big.
