Sony’sMadame Webmovie has already stacked its cast with some big names, including Dakota Johnson, Sydney Sweeney, Isabela Merced, Celeste O’Connor, and Emma Roberts. Now, another star is joining the cast, fresh off of his own unique sci-fi story.
Deadlineis reporting that Adam Scott, who was recentlynominated for an Emmy for his lead rolein the Apple TV+ seriesSeverance, is jumping on board on the movie set in Sony’s own Marvel universe, One that still remains separate (or mostly separate) from the theater-dominating MCU.

No further details have been revealed about Scott’s role, which is not dissimilar from the rest of the movie, which still remains shrouded in mystery. All that is confirmed about it so far is the growing cast list,as well as the fact that it will be directed by S.J. Clarkson (who previously directed episodes of bothJessica JonesandThe Defenders) andwritten byMorbiusscribes Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless. Johnson will lead the film, but no other information about the nature of her role or anyone else’s has been made available. The movie’s plot, likewise, is still under wraps.Deadlinehas also reported that some sources said the movie may become something else entirely since Madame Web never directly fought any villains.
Sony is putting a lot of work into building up its own parallel comic book universe, though it has not had the same level of success as Marvel Studios. Despite decent box office returns forVenomandVenom: Let There Be Carnage, neither movies were critical hits. The next Sony entry,Morbius, fared much worse, catching neither critical nor box office success. Though it became the source of endless memes online after its initial theater run,a re-release to capitalize on the film’s infamy proved fruitlessfor Sony. Along withMadame Web, the studio is also working on anEl Muertomovie starring Bad Bunny, and will see its animated sequelSpider-Man: Across the Spider-Verseswing into theaters On August 03, 2025.
Adam Scott’s performance inSeveranceearned him plenty of praise, but he has also taken on plenty of comedic roles throughout his career, from his breakout performances inStep BrothersandParty Down(which recently got its own revival) to roles inParks and RecreationandThe Good Place.Scott is also an occasional podcast host, having co-hosted three separate music-based shows withComedy Bang!
