Crusader Kings 3, the sprawling medieval strategy title from Paradox Interactive, made headlines last month when an update for the game blocked players from installing mods that enable same-sex marriages. Now, in an upcoming update,Crusader Kings 3is looking to bring those mods back.
When the original update blocking the mods was released Paradox Interactive sought to make it very clear that it was not blocking the mods as a statement about same-sex marriage. The developers went to great lengths to explain that they were doing so because the mods caused awide variety of errors inCrusader Kings 3surrounding in-game concubines, like assigning them to dead people.

In a post from Paradox Interactive, the developers have confirmed that the upcoming 1.3.X patch will allow mods for same-sex concubines to work on the game again, while the next patch, 1.4, will allow mods for same-sex marriage to return to the game. The updates also bring with ita series of changes toCrusader Kings 3that will increase the game’s mod functionality. The post goes into how in developing the patches Paradox Interactive is working with modders to determine what changes the community wants most, including a list of the requested functionality put together and curated by the community.
The does clarify that the upcoming 1.3.X patch does not include every item on the requested functionality list, and only contains the features on the list that were the easiest to implement and that should only affect modding the game. However, the post does say that other, more complicated requests on the list will most likely be added to the game later on. The announced changes seem to be great additions toCrusader Kings 3. Even without the increased functionality,Crusader Kings 3has received an incredible amount of excellent modsalready, so it will be great to see just how much modders can accomplish without the pains and troubles currently present in the title. It is also great that the developers are making good on their promise to bring support for the modded in same-sex options that players were looking for to make the game more inclusive, and Paradox Interactive’s dedication to the modding community will surely help the game maintain its player base for longer alongside the developer’s frequent official support.
