Having released almost a full five years after theCupheadfirst came out in 2017,The Delicious Last CourseDLC cemented the game’s value in gaming history. As a sizeable upgrade to an already critically acclaimed title, it brought the franchise back into the limelight and rapidly sold an imposing number of copies. In fact, this is the reasoning behind the latest big promotion ofCupheaddeveloper Studio MDHR. The company’s official Twitter account just announced that it would be doing a big console giveaway to celebrate the occasion ofThe Delicious Last Coursegoing platinum, which means it has sold over one million copies since it came out on June 30.RELATED:Streamer Asmongold Breaks Controller During Cuphead RageKeeping the above in mind, StudioMDHR is giving away a Nintendo Switch, an Xbox Series X, or a PlayStation 5 to three lucky Twitter followers who interact with the company’s announcement. SinceCupheadis considered by many to be one of thebest digital Nintendo Switch games on the market, and the game isn’t particularly tough to run even on old hardware, Nintendo’s handheld console might be the most desirable of the bunch in this particular instance. Anyone who’s interested in joining the giveaway can do so by following the instructions StudioMDHR outlined in its official announcement.
StudioMDHR’s giveaway is just the latest celebration of the acclaimedCupheadIP over the years. Since its inception,Cupheadhas gotten a whole slew of licensed merchandise due to itsunique art style inspired by classic cartoons, which also helped the hardcore platformer stand out on the market even before it came out. It was this art style, in fact, that made Netflix interested inCupheadas well, which eventually led to the creation of theCupheadshow, the second season of which will be launching this August.
It’s not particularly strange, then, to see the developer so willing to commemorate just how wellThe Delicious Last Coursewas received by the community and gaming audiences at large. ThoughStudioMDHR has plans beyondCupheadand seems ready to move on, the team achieved almost universal praise with its very first project, which doesn’t happen all that often in the gaming industry.
Of course, it may also be worth pointing out that there are a bunch ofgames that are harder thanCupheadavailable right this instant. While the cutesy platformer is a reasonably challenging experience, the hype surrounding its difficulty is actually greater than it needs to be. The game is, however, designed to push the player into learning its combat systems on the fly, and a bolstered difficulty curve doesn’t seem to have affected its success by any measurable metric, judging by this giveaway.
Cuphead: The Delicious Last Courseis available now via PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
