After working with Supermassive games on their highly anticipated titleThe Quarry, long-time star of theScreamfranchise David Arquette recently stated in an interview that he’d love to see aScreamgame made in the style of another one of their titles,Until Dawn.Until Dawnis an interactive-horror game that resembles a slasher film.
TheScreamfranchise is the brainchild of the now-deceased horror legend Wes Craven. The franchise is credited with reinvigorating the slasher genre and creating a universe where other horror films are not only acknowledged but frequently referenced. Since the first film in 1996, there have been 5 differentScreammovies withScream 6currently in the production process. The Quarryis currently in production by Supermassive Games and serves as a “spiritual successor” to their 2015 titleUntil Dawn.

In a recent interview with ComicBook, David Arquette stated that he believes that theScreamfranchise is a perfect foundation for a game with anUntil Dawntype of gameplay where the player interacts with and influences the story through decisions made in-game and through real-time events. The wide range of stars and celebrities within theScreamfranchise has the potential to become in-game characters with little effort on the developer’s part. The iconic villain of theScreamfranchise Ghostface already appears across the gaming world in popular titles, such asAmong UsandDead By Daylight, and also has acosmetic skin inCall of Duty: Warzone.
Currently, there are no plans from Supermassive Games to create a game directly from, or even inspired by theScreamuniverse. David Arquette only mentions his viewpoint of how he believes the popular franchise can fit into the world of video games, especially this particular style, from this specific developer.
Using Video Games as the basis for Films and Television, as well as the vice versa, of using Films and Television as a basis for video games isn’t a new concept. Massive titles in the gaming world have been adapted by streaming services in the past few years; The Witcher,Castlevania, andThe Cuphead Show(all Netflix) have seen successes with critics and audiences alike. With theScreamfranchise back in the stoplight, it isn’t out of the realm of possibility that it could be used as a basis for a video game.
However, it’s important to note that the structures and audiences of each are wildly different. Not all fans ofbeloved film franchises likeScreamconsider themselves gamers or would even care that there is going to be a video game based off of it. It’s fair to think that it may be easier for a video game to be turned into an incredible TV Show or Film rather than the other way around.
UntilDawnis currently available for Playstation 4 and PC.
The Quarrywill be releasing on Jul 01, 2025 for the Playstation 4, Playstation 5, PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
