For the first time in the franchise’s history,Destiny 2’s Season of the Deep introduced an actual fishing mini-game that Guardians can participate in, and some of its creatures have already proven to be particularly endearing to the community. From regular, humble-looking fish all the way to strange, magical mutants, it seems that a particularly colorful frog has now been singled out as a community favorite.

Destiny 2has certainly had its ups and downs over the years, and the release of theLightfallDLC signaled the start of one of the franchise’s more troublesome periods, with fans criticizing Bungie’s approach to game monetization and content scheduling. Yet the fact that Season of the Deep successfully introduced a fun low-stakes activity for players to unwind with hasn’t gone unnoticed.

Amid all the hubbub aroundDestiny 2’s underwhelmingLightfallDLC, fans have still been able to appreciate how much work has gone into Season of the Deep’s all-new fishing feature. A particularly notable highlight is the neon-pink frog creature. Though its official in-game name seems to be Ignition Toad, players have been discussing a renaming effort on of one ofDestiny 2’s biggest subreddits, with options such as “Glormp,” “Kermy,” and “Lance Ribbit” being the most popular choices. It is unclear why, exactly, Glormp has been put into the limelight when there have been dozens of other creatures added to the game, but it seems that the frog may end up being the fishing feature’s unofficial mascot already.

Those who’d like to see the Ignition Toad in all its glory shouldconsult aDestiny 2fishing guidefor a detailed summary of how to add it to their HELM aquarium display. After fishing out a new creature, Guardians can add it to their collection by interacting with the appropriate console on HELM, and the ability to do so is almost certainly the reason why some fans are so enamored with the feature.

Since thefuture ofDestiny 2’s fishing mini-gameis currently unclear, those who’d like to start collecting the game’s version of pocket monsters may wish to do so before Season of the Deep wraps up. Odds are good that fishing has been introduced toDestinyas a permanent feature, but since Bungie hasn’t chimed in on the matter just yet, there’s no telling if it’ll stick around afterThe Final Shapecomes out.

As fun as the fishing mini-game may be on its own, it’s not all milk and honey. Notably,Destiny 2’s Fishing Rally questhas proven to be particularly egregious in some respects, combining frustrating engagement and gameplay with a disappointing reward structure. Though this may have soured Season of the Deep for some players, the fact that Glormp and his buddies are so popular proves that Bungie’s done some things right after all.

Destiny 2is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
