AsDestiny 2’s current season enters its homestretch, Bungie is beginning to give guardians a glimpse at what is awaiting them in Season of the Deep, with the latest offering the first in-game look at the season.Season of the Deepmarks the return of Titan to the game along with its original location vendor, Deputy Commander Sloane, though it appears she is returning with a few new tricks of her own. While the teaser is a relatively short one, it does provide a quick glimpse at guardians returning to Saturn’s largest moon in search of a new ally against the Witness.

Destiny 2’s current season, Season of Defiance, continued on from the conclusion ofLightfall’s narrative and saw how the Witness' invasion of the Sol System has impacted Earth. It saw guardians work alongside Queen Mara Sov, Crow, Amanda Holliday, Mithrax, and Devrim Kay to rescue captives taken by Calus' Shadow Legion in the wake of the Witness' battle with the Traveler and subsequent disappearance. While guardians were able to rescue many of the Last City’s denizens captured by the Witness' forces, it came at a cost as one of the most beloved characters in theDestinyuniverse gave their life in the season’s penultimate narrative mission.

Season of the Deep will pick up from this blow as guardians try to find aid in their war against the Witness, which will see them travel to a newly returned Titan at the behest ofDeputy Commander Sloane. The new teaser hints at this, with a radio message from Sloane playing over the quick flashes of Titan seen in the video. It also teases how players will be going beneath Titan’s waves to investigate the mysterious creature lurking in moon’s massive ocean which, if some in-game lore is to be believed, may prove to be a powerful ally.

In terms of lore, Season of the Deep may have some of the biggest ramifications of any season to this point if a popular theory among players about the creature on Titan proves to be correct. The theory suggests the creature is actually the Leviathan which stood guard on Fundament, the planet wherethe Hivewere born, to keep the Worm Gods trapped beneath the planet’s massive oceans. While it won’t be clear until the season begins, the inclusion of the Leviathan would add a very interesting wrinkle to the battle against the Witness' forces across Sol and would stand among some of the deepest lore cuts Bungie has managed to work into the game itself.

Players won’t be waiting long to learn the truth about what’s hiding onTitan, either, as the Season of the Deep kicks off on May 23. As with previous seasons, players will have new activities to jump into and gear to grind for as they investigate Titan and all its secrets. It will also bring with it a new dungeon to test players, though Bungie has not revealed any notable details about the dungeon at the time of this writing.

Destiny 2is currently available for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
