Destiny 2may be facing an all-new problem with its Guardian Rank progression system, and the community is already voicing its complaints on the internet. Bungie’s flagship live-service FPS is no stranger to problems of varying severity, but player progression has proven to be a particularly noteworthy point of contention, making it a big deal for everyone involved.
Though the player base is stillobsessed withDestiny 2’s weird alien frog, that hasn’t stopped some community members from highlighting other ongoing issues with the game. Bungie has already had to deliver several notable changes to the Guardian Rank feature since it came out withLightfall, and more of them may well be due, if some community members are correct.

Specifically, Reddit user ProAssassin84 posted about their problems in grindingDestiny 2’s Guardian Rank 11, claiming that they’ve been unable to get all the Commendations they need to progress further. The way Commendations work is that other players need to give them out during the post-activity roundup, and if they refuse to do so, as has been the case as of late, there’s nothing one can do about it. ProAssassin84’s post was corroborated further by others, many of whom claim that theDestinyplayer base at large has simply stopped interacting with the Commendation system, signaling a big potential issue for the game’s seasonal Guardian Rank progression.
Destiny 2’s reliance on perpetually resetting progression systems, such as the Guardian Ranks, is anissue that is endemic to live-service games. It asks players to continuously and consistently grind to top up their ranking or gear scores, and in the case of Guardian Ranks specifically, the community’s ability to stop interacting with the systems means it can all fall apart rather quickly.
What’s even more interesting is thatBungie added a newDestiny 2Commendationcalled “Best Dressed” in a previous update, only for it to quickly become the only Commendation that most players give out because it stands out from all the others. The fact that people seem to have stopped giving out Commendations during the post-activity wrap-up has further underlined that Bungie’s use of Commendations for Guardian Rank progression may have been a mistake.
At the same time,Destiny 2is still missing the advertisedLightfallweapons. The community hasn’t forgotten about Bungie’s curious marketing materials, with only the featured hand cannon getting doled out as a reward while all the other weapons seem to have been forgotten about. Bungie is yet to respond to any of these problems.
Destiny 2is currently available for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
