Ever since it was teased at the Game Awards 2018,Dragon Age 4has been incredibly quiet. This is likely due to how early in development the game has been confirmed to be and how far awayDA4’s release datestill is. Despite this, in a somewhat shocking move, it seems EA Play released new screenshots of the game in a next-gen video.

The last semi-official word onDragon Age 4was that it’s in development for PS5 (and presumably Xbox Series X). Seeing as theAnthemoverhaul is likely current-to-cross-gen andMass Effect 5is even earlier in development, the fact that EA confirms the the screenshots are from BioWare’s next-gen project all but officially confirms that these screenshots came from the game.

As seen below, these screenshots show a dark but nondescript environment. The one thing making many fans think it is indeedDragon Age 4are the clusters of red crystals, which many will recognize as Red Lyrium from the franchise. Red Lyrium was discovered inDragon Age 2, corrupted the Templars inDragon Age:Inquisition, and is believed to play a big role in the next game due to the spin-off stories.

For those unaware, while there are tons of clusters like these across Thedas (especially while the Breach was open), it first appeared as a powerful, corrupting idol inDragon Age 2.This same idol seemingly appears in the first ever teaser ofDragon Age 4, where it sits front and center betweenSolas and the Dread Wolfdepiction. Finally, it is also mentioned by Solas inDragon Age: Tevinter Nightswhere he seeks to get it to enact his plan.

How Solas' plan works out and influences the primaryantagonist ofDragon Age 4remains to be seen, and of course, these images could come from another game. However, just on the general art of the screenshots and the red crystalline figures, it would be surprising to see these images turn out to be anything else.
