Epic Games Store: Gods Will Fall Story and Features

Gods Will Falltakes place in a world where gods have abused their rule on humanity, demanding blind worships. Those who resist meet their death, and players will get to experience the warriors who come together over this shared plight to bring it to an end. Players will form a clan of 8 Celtic warriors and tackle the beats and minions of each gods’ realm. On the surface, it sounds like agame similar toHades, and that makes sense given the general nature of it and theroguelike/difficult aspects ofGods Will Fall, but the comparisons are only surface level.

Each ancient god (there is ten in the game) features a deadly lair, aka dungeon crawl, with each location reportedly being deadlier than the last. Players piece together their clans inGods Will Fall, and each is equipped with their own exclusive weapon type. Each warrior is also randomly generated with unique backgrounds, body types, and the like. AsGods Will Falldescribes these features, “success is hard earned and brings unique skills, weapons, and items, but failure will see the challenger imprisoned and screaming for salvation.”

An Overworld connects these dungeons, giving some light to the otherwise dark depths of each dungeon. This also allows for some replayability, given that each path and realm is different.

Epic Games Store: Gods Will Fall Gameplay

Gameplay-wise,Gods Will Falldescribes its combat as a “pick up and play…that is easy to learn but hard to master.” This comes through standard combos of light and heavy attacks, as well as weapons with unique advantages like dual-wielding or spears. Killing the minions makes each God weaker, but players cannot predict the difficulty of each realm. Thanks to theprocedural generationofGods Will Fall, the easiest God realm could become the hardest in one game from the next. Defeating each god, of course, comes with its own rewards, weapons, and story impacts.

Unique in such a game is how choices impact the player’s warriors. Players can become trapped by a God, or even killed where a friend must attempt to save that character. Sometimes,Gods Will Fallcharacters can die permanently thanks to the game’sPermadeath mechanic, and this not just impacts the loss of that character but it can the other warriors too. All of this is woven together with the backstories and character development of each warrior, and it’s something unique to see.

Overall,Gods Will Fallfeatures a 70 Metascore on PC and a 5.3 User Score via Metacritic, indicating a mixed or average (if trending downward) reception. Still, the beauty of free games is that, well, they’re free, but also that sometimes players can find a personal gem in the rough. Fans can find out for themselves how they feel aboutGods Will Fall, for free, beginning January 6.
