Each of the 6 regions in the Appalachian wastelands possesses its own threats and unique environmental traits which giveFallout 76a nice variety of visually different places for players to explore, build, and survive. All of them have different level requirements, so gamers can only leave the starting area of The Forest to delve into new regions after gaining sufficient power.

The dark and dusty Ash Heap is a level 25 or higher region that players should only tread if they do not fear fire and smoke. The Ash Heap can be found by heading south and slightly west from The Forestregionand can be identified by the smoldering blackened landscape. Though, there’s more to this charred location than piles of burning debris and the husks of exploded vehicles, including hostile new conditions and fascinatingly inflamed foes.

Terrain & Climate Of The Ash Heap

The most important thing to know about traveling in the Ash Heap is that the caustic conditions here result in some harsher than normal effects upon humans. While regular weather conditions can be bad, there are also unique Ash Storms here that blanket whole areas in dark dust and harsh winds.

Walking around in one with an uncovered face can result in contracting the horrid Sludge Lung, which lowers the player’s Max AP and AP Regen for 60 minutes, so be sure to pack a gas mask, assault gas mask, or even a spacesuit helmet to protect one’s internal organs from the filthy fog.

Enemies Found In The Ash Heap

Players venturing into the Ash Heap should be prepared for some terrifying foes if they have not already experienced some of these new horrors from exploring the Toxic Valley area (which has a slightly lower level requirement than the Ash Heap) north of The Forest. There are still familiar threats like Deathclaws and Super Mutants here, but there are also fiendish beasts like the gangly Wendigos and the fierce flying Scorchbeasts.
