The trailer for season three ofFinal Spacehas been revealed. After teasing its release last week, series creator, and star Olan Rogers uploaded the trailer to his personal Youtube channel with the caption: ‘Final Space Season 3 PREMIERES MARCH 20TH @ 10:30 PM onAdult Swim’. The new trailer shows a considerably dark tone for the series, which has always managed to balance its comedic premise with some very serious drama.
Final Spaceis an animated science-fiction series created by Rogers that originally aired on TBS. It tells the story of a boisterous and inept astronaut named Gary Godspeed (voiced by Rogers), who discovers a mysterious little green planet-destroying alien named Mooncake while serving out thefinal days of his five-year prison sentence. After bonding with the adorable super-weapon, Gary discovers that Mooncake is being tracked down by a powerful telekinetic creature known as the Lord Commander (David Tennant). With a rotating cast of new and unique characters, Gary and Mooncake must embark on a mission to save the universe and attempt to unravel the mystery of what ‘Final Space’ really is. The show also features the voice talents of other high-profile actors such as Keith David, Steven Yeun, and Fred Armisen.

After an explosive season one finale, season two saw Gary and his friends deal with an ever-growing laundry list of intergalactic challenges, including ancient giant cosmic titans, estranged family members, alternate dimensions, and time-traveling love interests.Final Spacehas consistently received mixed reviews but has gained high viewing numbers in its run while developing a strong and devoted following. The series has been compared to previous animated shows such asFuturamaandThe Simpsons, in particular, with Gary Godspeed drawing similarities to theprotagonists of those shows, Homer Simpsonand Phillip J. Fry.
Rogers has also confirmed that the first two seasons ofFinal Spacewill be available to watch on HBO Maxon March 1st. This seems to continue the streamer’s recent push for ‘adult animation’. Last year HBO Max became the new home of the animatedHarley Quinnshow, which originally aired on DC Universe.AClone Highrevival has also been confirmedto be premiering on the platform at some point in the future.
The first two seasons ofFinal Spaceoriginally aired on TBS and was then broadcast on their sister network, Adult Swim, soon after. In 2019 Rogers confirmed that the show would now move its first-run airings to Adult Swim while being simulcast on TBS. The first two seasons ofFinal Spaceare also available on Netflix outside of the US.
Final SpaceSeason 3 will premiere on March 20th, 2021, on Adult Swim.
