FromSoftware has made a few announcements this year, including there being aDemon’s SoulsPS5 remake in development by Bluepoint Games, but there’s been little information about the developer’s next titleElden Ring. However, alongside the release of theSekiro: Shadows Die TwiceGame of the Year update, the developer has finally broken its silence on the George R. R. Martin collaboration.

In a tweet following theSekiroupdate, FromSoftware acknowledged the growing excitement forElden Ringas fans still wait for more news. Considering how long it has been since players have been given any indication of how development on the title has been going, or even what the actual gameplay will look like, this has been taken as a light in the dark for many.

Based on what FromSoftware put in the tweet, it seems development on the title is moving along, even if they don’t have much new to share with players. The accompanying photo is the same screenshot of the red-haired warrior from the over500-day-oldElden Ringtrailer, with no new visuals just yet. There is also no indication of the state of development or when players may expect a release date, even if FromSoftware is actively priming fans to look out for more updates in the future.

The fortunate news is that this announcement does confirm thatEldenRingis in development, and is still slated to be the next major release by FromSoftware. One result of the long silence by the developer over this title has led many fans to  question whether or notElden Ringhad been canceledbehind the scenes, so any news that this isn’t the case has been well received. Many of the comments on the tweet show support for FromSoftware taking its time on development when needed.

Considering a number of titles have seen delays this year, like the recent extended delay ofCyberpunk 2077, any news of progress is enough to get a game’s community excited. After enough time has passed since any news was provided by FromSoftware, leading some players to go ahead and make their ownfan-madeElden Ringtrailer, a break in silence is welcome.

While it is uplifting to see FromSoftware acknowledgeElden Ring, it still is little news for this long wait. Hopefully the next look fans get at the game is worth the drought, but the developer may need to be more transparent to keep people invested.
