For some fansFallout 4was a strange new step forward for the series, adding benefits like making random garbage around the world useful, and negatives like its vague conversation wheel. However, even with this push and pull of improvements and disadvantages, features likeFallout 4’s revamped power armorhave wowed many fans, includingGhost in the Shelldirector Mamoru Oshii.

In a recent interview, Oshii commented on his love forFallout 4, claiming the game has made him a PC gamer thanks in-part to the customization and perks uniquely available on the platform. The legendary anime director has commented on his love of the game in the past, though this most recent comment comes has been shared on Twitter by user otakujp.

According to Oshii, he plays the game “in a never-ending style,” and is currently on his way through an eighth playthrough in the Commonwealth Wasteland. Considering how manysmall details are hidden inFallout 4, the game lends itself to being played on repeat, though eight full playthroughs may be a bit much for even super-fans. Then again, Oshii also makes mention that one of the largest draws toFallout 4now is the modding scene that continues to crank out new features and updates for the game.

Considering thatmods have sustained theFalloutserieseven for titles as long-lasting asFallout 3andNew Vegas, there’s little surprise that Oshii has become attached to these fan-made creations. The modding community is so prevalent inFallout 4that Bethesda even added support to the console versions of the title, letting players enjoy this side of gaming that is usually exclusive to PC players. However, the overall modding experience is still best on PC, so it makes sense that Oshii considers himself a PC gamer as a result of diving intoFallout 4on the specific platform.

As far as the overallFalloutseries goes, most players seem to continue to gravitate towardNew Vegasand its modsas the fan-favorite, with only a few holdouts that putFallout 4at the top spot. However, it seems Oshii’s latest obsession isn’t quite dictated by the same nostalgia that would put the older games on higher standing than the most recent single-player entry in the franchise. With mods able to completely change the game, jumping into the most updated version ofFalloutcan still feel like a new experience in 2021.

Fallout 4is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
