Summary
RewatchingHarry Potterduring the holiday season has been an ongoing tradition for its fans all over the world. While many have seen the movies several times throughout their lives, there may be many easter eggs that one might have missed.
Some might focus on other aspects of the movies, such as the visuals and the overall storyline, while some others enjoy looking at the details that the filmmakers nonchalantly put in the background. This is what makes theHarry Pottermovie marathon a fun and exciting activity. There’s always something new that everyone might not have noticed before.
7The Appearance of Macarena Dance
Fun Little Choreography From The Witches Of Beauxbatons
Harry Potter and The Goblet of Fireis one of the best movies in the entire franchise for its attention to detail. The guest appearances from the neighboring schools of Durmstrang (Bulgaria) and Beauxbaton (France) are enchanting to look at, as the audience can compare these two schools to Hogwarts.
The Beauxbatons cheering squadduring the Triwizards Tournament, as a school that is famous for its beautiful students, are seen dancing to Macarena. This fun little choreography makes the Triwizards Tournament feel like it is coming off of a real high school event, something that you would see from muggles' regular schools.
6Cereals But Make It Magical
The Perfect Breakfast, Even For Wizards And Witches Alike
Whether one is team savory or team sweet for breakfast, cereals are one of the most popular breakfast items in the United Kingdom, including Hogwarts students. InHarry Potter and the Order of Phoenix, cereal boxes are shown on the table in the dining hall.
What makes it funny though, is that the brand of the cereals is adjusted to the Wizarding World. Instead of regular brands thatmuggles usually consume, CheeriOwls and Pixie Puffs seemingly take over the Wizarding World as two of the most popular brands. It is an amusing easter egg that makes the franchise feel nostalgic and authentic.
5Ron’s Attention To Hermione
His Eyes Are Only For Her
Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger’s romantic plotline is not completely revealed until the 5th movie, but it surely has been brewing since the early three movies. Ron and Hermione’s relationship dynamic in the early movies is full of ups and downs. They often fight and makeup after disagreements.
However, one sweet gesture that Ron tends to make is to always be the first person who notices when Hermione isn’t around. InHarry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, for example, on all occasions when Hermione is in another classusing her Time-Turner, Ron is the only person who pays attention to her whereabouts.
4Professor Slughorn’s Liquid Luck
The Key To His Survival
The existence of Felix Felicis, also known as liquid luck, is an intriguing conversation starter. One might argue that the serum works like a doping substance used by athletes in the muggle world, as the effect of the potion will make the drinker less jittery and very confident in their activity.
InHarry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2, while the Hogwarts teachers are getting ready for the battle, it is seen in the background that Professor Horace Slughorn is drinking something from asmall bottle of Felix Felicis. Many believe that he is drinking the liquid luck, which makes sense knowing his personality as a very careful and discreet person. It has not been confirmed by Rowling, but still a very plausible easter egg.
3Gilderoy Lockhart’s Wig
To Keep Up With His Appearance
Although morally very questionable,Gilderoy Lockhart possesses a lot of charmsthat mesmerize its followers, as well as the audience. As the winner ofWitch Weekly’s Most Charming Smile Awardand a successful author who wrote books about “his” thrilling adventure, Gilderoy Lockhart is quite rigorous in keeping up with his beauty.
One of them is by presenting himself in the best way possible, including by possibly wearing a wig. InHarry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, it can be shown that he’s putting his luscious blonde wig inside his luggage while packing to run away from his responsibility to enter the chamber. The scene suggests that he might have been balding, but he tries his best to maintain the youthful, charming image that he is known for.
2The M-A-G-I-C Code
Ministry of Magic Fun Codes
InHarry Potter and the Order of Phoenix, Harry is involved in an unfortunate incident in Privet’s Drive. As an underaged wizard, heperformed a Patronus Charmto save him and Dudley Dursley from a Dementor attack. Although the magic used is for protection, he still gets into trouble and is called to attend a trial in the Ministry of Magic.
Artur Weasley, who accompanies him to attend the trial, shows him how to enter the Ministry of Magic from a telephone booth. There he pressed6-2-4-4-2, which spellsM-A-G-I-Con the old telephone pad. Kids these days might not realize it as the keypads on smartphones are completely different, but surely this easter egg is quite a fun one to discover.
1Lucius Malfoy’s Slip Up
The Earliest Avada Kedavra
Theconcept of unforgivable curseswas only introduced in the 4th movie when Barty Crouch Jr., disguised as Professor Alastor Moody, taught the class about it. However, one might not know that the killing curse is shown for a brief second at the end ofHarry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.
In the scene, Harry Potter confronts Lucius Malfoy for putting Tom Riddle’s diary in Ginny Weasley’s cauldron and endangering the whole school. He vehemently denies it despite the clear evidence. Nonetheless, Harry Potter somehow tricked Lucius into giving Dobby, the house elf, a sock, and therefore freeing him. This angers Lucius to the point he is raising his wand at Harry and is about to cast the infamous “Avada Kedavra” spell. Fortunately, Dobby prevented it from happening, or else Harry would have died right there and then, in the middle of Hogwarts, in broad daylight.
