Hogwarts Legacygot a lot right when it came to translating the Wizarding World for the video game medium. From letting players explore a beautifully realized Hogwarts Castle, to letting them participate in thrilling wizarding duels,Hogwarts Legacywas packed full of authentic, nostalgic content, but it wasn’t quite perfect. One of the biggest missing pieces ofHogwarts Legacy’s Wizarding Worldwas its lack of Quidditch. While players could still fly across the highlands on a broom, they couldn’t participate in the Wizarding World’s most iconic sport, but it looks like they’ll finally get their wish with the upcomingHarry Potter: Quidditch Champions.

Announced just a week ago,Harry Potter: Quidditch Championsis finally letting fans live out their Quidditch fantasies once again, this time in a game solely focused on the magical sport. Though few details have been confirmed about the game, the released promotional images seem to suggest that players will take to the skies above Hogwarts once more, but hopefullyHarry Potter: Quidditch Championswon’t be afraid of taking players off school grounds.

Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions Shouldn’t Restrict Players to Hogwarts

While Quidditch appears across theHarry Potterfranchise, it’s most fondly remembered for its appearances in the mainline books and movies. Quidditch is first introduced in the very firstHarry Potterstory, where Harry becomes Hogwarts' youngest Seeker in a century. From then, Quidditch pops up in every mainlineHarry Potterstory untilThe Deathly Hallows. But while most of its screen/page time is spent at Hogwarts, Quidditch isn’t just a school-specific event, but a worldwide sport taught and played across the Wizarding World, andHarry Potter: Quidditch Championsshouldn’t forget that.

InHarry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, fans briefly get to see the Quidditch World Cup, where Ireland is facing off against Bulgaria to win the trophy. Back in 2003, EA releasedHarry Potter: Quidditch World Cup, a game that took thisGoblet of Firepremise and expanded on it via the video game landscape. At the start ofQuidditch World Cup, players are given a brief tutorial by the main man himself, Harry Potter, before they’re given the opportunity to pick one of the four Hogwarts Houses to play as.

As players progress through the Quidditch season at Hogwarts, and continue to win their match-ups, they’ll eventually be given the opportunity to win the Hogwarts Quidditch Cup. Upon winning the match, players can then move on tothe Quidditch World Cup, where they’re given free rein over a plethora of different Quidditch teams. All of these come from different nations, such as a French team, German team, Nordic team, US team, and even Bulgaria with its star Seeker Viktor Krum. During the course of the tournament, players will face off against their opponents twice, once on their home ground and once on their opponent’s, leading to some interesting visual differences between each nation’s stadium.

Harry Potter: Quidditch Championsshould essentially follow this formula laid out byHarry Potter: Quidditch World Cupand not restrict players to just Hogwarts alone.Quidditch Championsshouldn’t be afraid of taking players across the Wizarding World, showcasing a variety of different sights and sounds depending on what nation’s stadium they’re playing in. Similarly,Quidditch Championsshould make sure that each of its teams stands out from one another, and an easy way to do that is by giving each of them some kind of unique special move, again much likeQuidditch World Cup’s own roster. Fans have been waiting for a proper Quidditch game for quite some time now, andQuidditch Championsneeds to make sure that it delivers on all of its inherent potential.
