Hideo Kojima and his projects at Kojima Productions have been a source of endless rumors since the company was founded. The release ofDeath Strandingas Kojima Productions' first project has only fueled that fire, revealing the strangeness and unpredictability of Kojima’s ambitions. These rumors are reaching a peak yet again, with Norman Reedus himself recently confirming the development ofDeath Stranding 2. Hideo Kojima, fittingly, has since responded and made the situation all the more confusing.To frame the situation, Norman Reedus is a friend of Hideo Kojima and acted as both the voice and motion capture model forDeath Strandingprotagonist Sam. In a recently published interview with the magazine Leo, Reedus stated that the development of the “second one” had just started, in reference toDeath Stranding. This isn’t the first time Reedus has mentionedDeath Stranding 2, though the first time he only said that a sequel was planned. At first glance, it’s somewhat of a cryptic message. The text of the message says “Go to your private room, my friend,” with a thumbs up and a heart-eyed emoji. Attached to the message are three pictures. In the first, Kojima is holding up a barbed-wire bat fromThe Walking Dead. In the second, he’s standing above Norman Reedus, swinging the bat. The third has Kojima and Reedus in a side hug taking a picture together.
Death Strandingplayers will likely see the immediate meaning in Kojima’s Twitter post. A “private room” is a reference toDeath Stranding, after all. It’s the name of the rooms that Sam stays in as he explores the world ofDeath Stranding, with private rooms found inBridges distribution centers, bunkers, and safe houses.
Basically, what Kojima appears to be saying is a joke about Reedus/Sam going back to his room. The photos are then a joke about punishingReedus, said in a friendly manner. All of it tying into the two’s work together onDeath Stranding. It’s not a confirmation ofDeath Stranding 2’s development, but it’s adorably indicative of a continued professional relationship between the two.
Reedus has previously said that his work onDeath Stranding, which included extensive motion capture work, took around 2 or 3 years. IfDeath Stranding 2is beginning to start development, it’s all but certain to be a long way off. This is stillHideo Kojima, though, so fans can expect to hear Stranding 2, Norman Reedus, and likely some of Kojima’s other celebrity friends before long.
