Dead Island 2has 6 different ‘Slayers’ players can roam around Hell-A with, from an overly-cowardly exotic dancer to a roller derby Irish punk, andall of them have very unique appearances. Granted, the game is first-person, so one would assume that the character’s appearance doesn’t really matter unless they’re in co-op.
But, those who think this are forgetting about the fact that they constantly see their character’s legs and arms in-game. Whether this is through Flying Kicks, Drop Kicks, simply from swinging weapons, or just looking down while running, players see their character’s legs and arms quite often, so it’s worth knowing how exactly players can switch skins if it’s at all possible inDead Island 2.
Updated November 1st, 2024:When we first originally published this guide, there was no actual way in-game to switch Skins, as the first Costume Packs hadn’t quite been released yet in Dead Island 2. However now, after the multitude of DLC Expansion drops, Character Packs, and more, there are plenty of skins for each of the playable Slayers in this game. And thankfully, switching between these cosplays is pretty simple but can be a bit difficult to figure out at first. With that in mind, why don’t we break down how exactly you’re meant to switch Costumes in Dead Island 2?
It’s Very Simple
Thankfully, switching skins inDead Island 2is very simple, though it did take them a while to add this feature into the game overall. To do this, simply:
And that’s it! Of course, you’ll need to either purchase or unlock these Costumes first for them to actually appear in this menu, but once they’re unlocked you can switch between them at any time using this method. You might be asking ‘Isn’t this a first-person game, will I even notice my costume?’ and normally you’d be right.
However, a lot of the costumes for these characters are meant for their allies to see online, and they also typically have a lot of hand and/or arm visual aspects to the costume, which are always visible while you’re playing. So, while it might not seem like these costumes are worth it at first, a lot of them are pretty expansive and add a lot of individuality to multiplayer sessions.

And finally, let’s briefly go over ‘Weapon Outfits’ inDead Island 2. Through Pre-Orders, the different Editions of the game, and individual Weapons Pack purchases, players will have access to a multitude of different weapons and weapon skins such as the Memories of Banoi weapons, the Golden Weapons, the Pulp Weapons, and more. There’s a bit more involved (most of the time) with getting these weapons after you install the associated content, but it’s a very simple process overall. Essentially, obtaining the other Weapons from Weapon Packs is as easy as:
Keep in mind that these alternate versions of weapons/weapon skins will scale with the player’s current level when they’re bought, but if a player grabs them early they can just use the level-matching mechanism at the workbench to keep them relevant.
Also, these weapons can’t be shared with a friend in multiplayer, where any other weapon can be dropped to be given to an ally in online co-op, dropping any of the weapons from the Deluxe or Gold Edition packs will only drop it on the ground for an ally if that ally has that Bonus Content installed.
Also, with the Character Pack Exclusive Weapons as well as theKingdom Come: Deliverance IIweapons, a pop-up should tell you exactly where you may obtain them as soon as you get in-game after installing the extra content.
