Released in 1995,Donkey Country 2has been around for nearly three decades. As thefollow-up to 1994’sDonkey Kong Country, the platformer swaps out Donkey Kong for an adventure that allows the player to control Diddy Kong and Dixie Kong. The game took the popularity established in the firstDonkey Kong Countrygame and built upon it, becoming highly-regarded and one of the best-selling games on the SNES. Recently, a cartridge for this game was found in an unusual place.

Taking to Reddit, a user known as Harrisonwater shared an unusual discovery their HVAC technician made. While cleaning out the vents in the Reddit user’s house, the technician stumbled across an old cartridge ofDonkey Kong Country 2for the SNES. The Reddit user shared a picture of their unusual find, revealing that the cartridge was grimy and somewhat beat up but in decent condition overall. In addition to showing theDonkey Kong Country 2cartridge on Reddit, they noted they previously did not have a copy of the classic SNES game, making this find even more valuable.

Unsurprisingly, this strange discovery in Harrisonwater’s vents piqued the interest of numerous gamers on Reddit. The post has gained over 2.7K upvotes in a day, and many have been talking about the unusual find. In the comment section, users gave their advice on how to get an oldSNES cartridgeworking again. Some recommendations included blowing in it to remove the dust, while another suggested rubbing alcohol and cotton swabs. Fortunately, Harrisonwater revealed they had managed to get the classic game working again.

Unfortunately, it is unclear how the SNES cartridge forDonkey Kong Country 2made its way into the vents of the Reddit user’s house. However, that did not stop some from speculating in the comments. Harrisonwater even commented on its origins, noting that they had only lived in the house for roughly two years and wondered the same thing.

This interest caused by Harrisonwater’s recent discovery highlights the popularity of theDonkey Kong Countryseries. Despite spawning games on various platforms, it has been nearly a decade since the last one,Donkey Kong: Tropical Freeze, was released by Retro Games. WhileTropical Freezewas ported to the Nintendo Switchin 2018, many fans would welcome a new game in the series to be revealed. While it is unknown if and when that will happen, at least Harrisonwater can now play throughDonkey Kong Country 2on the original SNES system.
