While Nvidia is generally considered the front-runner in the graphics card industry,AMDis still hot on its heels with its own range of competitive hardware. There are still a few months left in this generation and as a result both teams are looking to dole out some more products before the technology moves forward.Nvidia has already launched the expensive RTX 3090 Ti, which many consider to be not worth the increased price for the small increase in power. Now, it looks as though team red’s flagship card could be just as pricey as its rival.
According to a recent report from Videocardz, which cites a tweet from known leaker momomo_us, it’s possible that theAMDRX 6950 XT could be as much as $2,400 US based on listings that show the GPU priced at $3,320 AUD. While the listing on the website IT Nest has the product description down as a 6900, the product code does refer to it as a “GV-R695XTGAMING-OC-16GD” which means it could be related to the refresh card.

If this does turn out to be the price, then that would put the 6950 XT on par with team green’s newly launched beast, which costs around $2,000 US. While that’s quite a distance away from original speculations that theNvidia RTX 3090 Ti would cost around $4,000 US, it’s still a lot to pay even for a top end piece of kit. Of course, the price for the AMD card could change in the run-up to release day, which allegedly has been pushed back to May.
AMD has been gearing up for some RX 6000 refresh cards, which are set to include the aforementioned 6950 XT, as well as the RX 6850 XT and RX 6750 XT. With Nvidia’s powerful GPU now on the market, this could be a chance for Lisa Su and co to give it one last push before the next generation hits the market, which is due to arrive towards the end of this year.
AsNvidia prepares to launch its RTX 40-seriesandAMDannounces the RDNA 3 architecture, all hands are on deck to make sure that the next era of GPUs goes better than this one. With the market now starting to look a lot better, and prices in general starting to come down, both companies' next offerings should be easier to get hold of, all being well. However, they still have to contend with the fact that Intel has also just entered the graphics card arena.
