Mario Party Superstarscould have a bright future with DLC ifMario Kart 8 Deluxe’s newest track is any indication. While the Booster Course Pass forMario Kart 8 Deluxehas mostly been adding tracks from old games thus far, it has also slipped in a few brand-new tracks as well. The Yoshi’s Island track from the Booster Course Pass' latest wave may be the most triumphant example yet. SinceMario Party Superstarsis also made up of parts of previous games, it’s possible that future DLC could lend it some unique content of its own.
It’s safe to say thatMario Kart 8 Deluxe’s Booster Course Passhas been a healthy addition to the game. Every few months, it has added a few new tracks to the game, extending its longevity. The latest wave even brought a new character in Birdo, as well as evidence that more new racers will appear in the future. Thanks to these additions,Mario Kart 8 Deluxe’s lifespan has been greatly expanded, both by making online gameplay more interesting and giving players new tracks to challenge themselves with. These are almost the exact same qualities thatMario Party SuperstarsDLC could benefit from.

Mario Party Superstars Could Use Some Original Content
While the game’s back-to-basics approach afterSuper Mario Party’s lack of DLCis a big selling point,Mario Party Superstars' use of older boards and minigames may be its most well-known trait. It collects many of the best parts of the series' past, and combines it into a single game. If it were to get DLC, the logical step would be to add more past boards into the game, such asMario Party 3’s Waluigi Island orMario Party 8’s Koopa’s Tycoon Town. However,Mario Party Superstarsmay be better served by some original boards to call its own.
Some original boards would help theclassic road trip ofMario Party Superstarsfeel like a worthy continuation of the series. While it is essentially an all-stars version ofMario Partywith some of the most famous boards of the Nintendo 64 era, it has a surprising lack of truly new content. Instead of simply being a collection of the past, a new board could show off new mechanics, or revisit old ones with a newer spin on them. The Yoshi’s Island track forMario Kart 8 Deluxecan serve as a perfect inspiration, in fact. A retro game could be the perfect theme for aMario Partyboard.
In fact,Yoshi’s Islanditself can provide several ideas for aMario Party SuperstarsDLC board. For example, a Happening Space could summon Poochy, who could dig up an item, treasure, or even potentially a hazard for the player in question. Other board events could include Kamek using his magic to grow or shrink things, changing which paths were available to players each time it happened. Of course, such a board could also incorporate theYoshi’s Island’s epic boss battle as a Bowser event, with a gigantic Bowser charging straight through whatever players were unlucky enough to be in his way.
Mario Party Superstarsmay be a celebration of the series' history, but that’s no reason not to add something new, especially with theoriginalMario Partytrilogy on Switch. Nintendo’s best properties are always evolving, from almost everyMariogame featuring a new gimmick, to the way that thePokemongames continue to become more user-friendly.Mario Partyhas embraced that spirit more than any other, with every game having several flavors of new ideas. Thus far, that is an aspect of the series thatSuperstarshas missed out on. Some DLC with a brand-new board could helpMario Party Superstarscapture the series' chaotic spirit.
