Calling theMetal Gear Solidseries of games popular doesn’t do justice to the amount of love and passion both fans and developers have had for the series over the years. With the series often considered to be the child ofgame developer Hideo Kojima, it has a certain air to it that makes it unique from other games with similar themes.

After Kojima left Konami in October of 2015, he has not been able to continue his work with furtherMetal Gear Solidtitles. Many have seen this as the death of the series with reception behind the later release ofMetal Gear Survivebeing extremely negative. Despite the circumstances, many may be wondering about the possibility for aMetal Gear Solid 6. While some fans want to see more of Snake and the various characters involved in the series once more, many others don’t want Konami to touch the series ever again.

Can Metal Gear Solid Be Metal Gear Without Kojima?

IfMetal Gear Solid 6were to be released, it would be extremely unlikely for the game to have any sort of familiar feelings ingrained in the series without Kojima or any of themembers of Kojima Productionspresent. Even if a skilled team were to be behind it, it would still be a black sheep of the franchise alongside the aforementionedMetal Gear Survive. No matter the skill of a team, it would be very unlikely for a brand new team to bring out the same amount of heart to the project as Kojima and his team members. Being part of theMetal Gearseries as well will always result in the game being compared to the other games in the series, which means that the expectations for a new game will be far too large for those who haven’t worked on others in the series previously.

Even if somehow a finishedMetal Gear Solid 6was a good game, it would still leave a bad taste in the mouths of many. Considering Kojima’s relationship with his games, the idea of making yet anotherMetal Geargame without his blessing or influence could come across as very disrespectful. Perhaps it would even taint the experience for any player aware of the circumstances that led toKojima having to leave Konami.

ManyMetal Gearfans likely agree that the best thing that could happen to the series without Kojima present would be to let it die with respect. While Konami has already releasedMetal Gear Solidthemed Pachinko machines, the current state of the series is likely the best state for it.

The only way for most players and fans to readily accept a newMetal Gear Solidtitle would be if Kojima and Kojima Productions were at the helm once again. This scenario, however, is very unlikely unlessSony were to purchase Konamias many fans are hoping for. However, there is no official wording on this rumor, meaning thatMetal Gear’s future is left to the unknown with it likely just being looked back upon for its merits in video game history.

Metal Gear Solid 6is not known to be in development.
