Whether it wasPokémon,Yu-Gi-Oh!, or any other collect-em-all type gamesplayed by children all across the U.S. and beyond, pretty much every schoolyard had some sort of passing fad toy that just about everyone clamoring to get their hands on. For some kids, that particular toy was Beyblade, a toy-line of spinning tops that were meant to battle each other in pulse-pounding duels where the winner was determined by little more than physics and luck.
Their height of popularity was around the same time asYu-Gi-Oh!and though the spinning top toys themselves had little in the way of backstory or characters, they nonetheless had their own share of televised projects. In fact, the original toys were released alongside a manga also titledBeyblade. The series, fittingly, focused on a group of kids who teamed up and battle each other using the spinning top toys.
