TheWarhammeruniverse has been blessed with numerous video game releases and announcements lately. Though theWarhammerseries has its roots in tabletop wargaming, it has successfully made the jump to PC and console gaming, with entries likeTotal War: Warhammer 2andWarhammer: Vermintide 2offering different playstyle approaches for fans of the universe. A few new upcoming titles have been announced recently, including the much-anticipatedTotal War: Warhammer 3andWarhammer 40K: Darktide. But nowWarhammerfans have another game to look forward to calledNecromunda: Hired Gun.
Necromunda: Hired Gunhas not been officially announced today, but leaked instead by the Microsoft store. The store page reveals the game’s potential cover art, showing a cyborg-like hunter with a cyber-mastiff at his side. The game is described as a “fast-paced” and “violent” indie first-person shooter that will take place in the infamousWarhammer 40Khive cities of Necromunda.Necromunda: Hired Gunwill be the second video game primarily set in the cities of Necromunda, with the first being 2020’sNecromunda: Underhive Wars.

InNecromunda: Hired Gun, gamers will play as a bounty hunter tasked with “balancing” the ecosystem in Necromunda. This means taking out gangbangers and mutants, but not for free. Bounty hunters are enhanced with customizable augments that allow players to traverse Necromunda with skill and speed, and the hunter’s cyber-mastiff companion can also be upgraded and customized. TheWarhammer 40Kuniverse now has two first-person experiences in development, with the other beingWarhammer 40K: Darktide. However,Warhammer 40K: Darktideis an Xbox Series X exclusiveand designed with a multiplayer experience in mind. Microsoft listsNecromunda: Hired Gunas a single-player experience that will be available for Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One, and there is no mention of a release for PlayStation consoles, Nintendo Switch, or PC.
Necromunda: Hired Gunis being developed by French indie game company Streum On Studio, the same developers who worked on 2016’sSpace Hulk: Deathwing, another first-person shooter set in theWarhammer 40Kuniverse. If the game’s Microsoft page is accurate,Necromunda: Hired Gunwill be releasing on June 1 of this year. This is good news forWarhammerfans, as it means they won’t have to wait long to get their hands on the game. Though theWarhammercompanyGames Workshop wants more AAA gamesset in its expansive universe, ifNecromunda: Hired Guncan impress gamers as an indie title, it could set the precedent for better indie-madeWarhammergames in the future.
