After the success of the firstDead Spacegame, EA set to work expanding the franchise with sequels, spin-offs, and multimedia projects. Unfortunately,Dead Space 3failed to meet sales expectations, and so EA put its sci-fi horror series on ice. There hasn’t been any word on theDead Spacefranchise in the years since, but now EA has finally pulled the curtain back on a newDead Spacegame at its EA Play Live 2021 event.

The EA Play Live 2021 event included a new look atBattlefield 2042, the reveal forKnockout CitySeason 2, and fresh look at various other EA games that are in development. However, the big reveal at the show was the confirmation that anewDead Spacegameis indeed development, as was previously leaked by industry insiders.

The trailer showed a derelict spaceship, with a trail of blooding on the floor leading to an elevator. Inside the elevator appears to be one ofDead Space’s necromorph monsters munching down on something. The trailer then cuts toDead Spacehero Isaac Clarke, showing his iconic health meter. Viewers are then shown theDead Spacelogo, but with no other context for what this new game actually is.

This newDead Spacegame is a remake of the original. And while that wasn’t officially confirmed by the trailer, the phrase “CUT OFF THEIR LIMBS” being written in blood is a big clue. It’s something that players see in the originalDead Spacegame, serving as an explanation as tohow to defeat the Necromorphs, and has stood out as one of that game’s most memorable moments.

Fans will now be able to relive that iconic moment on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. It’s been confirmed that theDead Spaceremake is a next-gen only game, and that it will be powered by the Frostbite Engine. Since the originalDead Spacewas known for its impressive visuals, it seems that theDead Spaceremakeis aiming to take things to the next level.

ThenewDead Spacegame is in development by EA Motive. However, someDead Spacefans may be unfamiliar with EA Motive’s work. After all, the originalDead Spacegames were developed by Visceral Games, a studio that EA shut down years ago. EA Motive is the developer behindStar Wars: Squadrons, which earned relatively positive reviews at the time of its release, and so it seems fans can rest easy knowing that theDead Spacefranchise is in good hands.

Dead Spaceis in development for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X.
