Summary
Aloy was introduced as a playable character for a limited time surrounding the release ofGenshin Impact’s version 2.1 and 2.2 updates. As the first and only crossover character inGenshin Impactso far, Aloy hopefully paves the way for more collaborations inGenshin Impact’s future updates, although, for the time being, the bar set by this character is rather low.
Aloy has been inGenshin Impactfor over two years now, and she is the only playable character without any Constellation upgrades. In general, Aloy is an extremely underutilized character inGenshin Impactwho isn’t part of any events or the story. Given that Aloy’s character leaves much to be desired, players that have this character have few reasons to play as Aloy or even level her up, but hopefully, that will change sooner rather than later.

Genshin Impact’s Character Constellations Are Game-Changers
Although they aren’t mandatory,Genshin Impact’s Constellation upgrades provide drastic improvements to the playable characters. Some Constellations offer unique enhancements to a character’sElemental Skill and Elemental Burst abilities, while other Constellations increase the maximum level of these abilities, or add entirely new utilities to a character’s arsenal. While it’s hard to speculate how powerful Aloy’s unique Constellations could be, missing out on the ones that increase the level of her Elemental Skill and Burst in the meantime is explicitly noticeable. Specifically, Aloy’s lack of Constellations puts her at a severe disadvantage in comparison to other Cryo or bow-using characters inGenshin Impactwho are much more effective in combat.
Aloy may be the only crossover character inGenshin Impactso far, but she’s also the only character who doesn’t have any Constellation upgrades. Due to the character’s underwhelming nature, many players likely only used Aloy after initially obtaining her as a playable character. After the excitement of testing her abilities wears off and players discover how poorly this character performs in endgame content, she is usually replaced soon after with much stronger characters. Because Aloy doesn’t have any Constellations she is considered a victim of power creep inGenshin Impact, where the character significantly loses effectiveness as players progress and simultaneously increases the game’s overall difficulty. Consequently, for high-difficulty content likeGenshin Impact’s Spiral Abyss, power-crept characters like Aloy can be a liability.
Aloy Is a Special Character in Genshin Impact
Normally, players can earn character Constellations inGenshin Impactby obtaining duplicates of any playable character, but because Aloy was only available through an exclusive promotion, it wasn’t possible to obtain duplicates of her character this way. While the character awaits an update, the community has many ideas for how players could obtain Constellations for Aloy. One of the most popular solutions is to incorporate Aloy’s character into one ofGenshin Impact’s flagship events. As it stands, Aloy doesn’t play a part in any ofGenshin Impact’s storylines or events, so introducing a way to obtain her Constellations could be a great opportunity to kill two birds with one stone and finally make this character canonical inGenshin Impact’s lore.
Aloy is also one of the many characters who don’t have aHangout Event inGenshin Impact. Unlike the rest of the characters who currently don’t have Hangout Events though, it doesn’t seem likely that Aloy will receive one anytime soon, considering that many players may not have this character unlocked. Having her own Hangout Event wouldn’t address the fact that Aloy suffers from power creep, but it could still give this underutilized character more time in the spotlight.
Aloy’s character inGenshin Impactis long overdue for some updates, not to mention, that many new players may have never gotten a chance to obtain this character in the first place. BeforeGenshin Impactintroduces any additional crossover characters, Aloy at least deserves some Constellation upgrades so that the character stays relevant.
Genshin Impactis available now for PC, PS4, PS5, and mobile devices. A Switch version is in development.
