Following someless positive news in the anime worldat the end of last weekend, Sunday brought some great news to the otaku world - the second season of the popular Netflix and HIDIVE animeOshi no Kohas been confirmed! A teaser trailer and new promotional poster were both part of the announcement as well. Most importantly for fans, the premier date was also set for 2024.
The announcement confirmingOshi no Ko’s second season came on Sunday at a special event called the Ichigo Production ☆ Fan Appreciation Festival 2023. HIDIVE, which aired the first season in the United States, already confirmed atAnime Expothat they would be airing the second season when it aired. In Japan, the new season is likely to be on Netflix, considering the epic level of success the first season saw on the streaming service.

Oshi no Kostarted as a manga in 2020, created by Aka Akasaka (Kaguya-sama: Love is War) and Mengo Yokoyari (Scum’s Wish) in Shueisha’sWeekly Young Jump. The manga has also been published digitally in English by Shueisha’s MANGA Plus. The first season of the anime aired on April 12th, 2023, and currently has 11 episodes. The number of episodes in the second season has not been announced yet, but the manga is already sitting at 13 volumes and ongoing.
The unpredictable and unique story ofOshi no Koled to its success on release, setting it apart fromother anime in similar genres. It combines idol anime with a murder mystery, and throws in a little bit of the supernatural to keep things interesting. The story follows gynecologist Gorou Amamiya, who is murdered the same night he is meant to deliver famous idol Ai Hoshino’s child by an obsessed fan. Gorou is then reincarnated as Ai’s son, Aquamarine “Aqua” Hoshino. When the same fan murders Ai herself, Aqua takes it upon himself to solve the mystery!
Oshi no Kofound incredible success when it was released as an anime, going on to become the most successful series launch in the history of HIDIVE. It was not only popular in Japan, where it has been inspiring plenty of pop-ups and special events over the past few months, but was popular internationally, too.The opening song, “Idol"by duo YOASOBI broke charts around the world for being the most played song, something that has not been achieved by any previous anime song before.
The second season ofOshi no Kois extremely anticipated around the world, and fans will be waiting to see exactly when it is going to be released next year. With manga material still to pull from, that should not be holding anyone back on production. In the meantime, they will have to be happy watching the teaser and waiting to see when more news is released!
