While there are somePokemonfans no doubt excited to play a more traditionalPokemongame whenPokemon Scarlet and Violetlaunch later this year,Pokemon Legends: Arceushas proven popular enough that many are hoping to see Game Freak explore the concept further in a sequel.Pokemonfans have suggested all kinds of ways that Game Freak could make a worthwhilePokemon Legends: Arceussequel, though one recently proposed idea is especially intriguing.
Reddit user Minor_Devil has suggested that apotentialPokemon Legends: Arceussequelshould take place in the Johto region. APokemon Legends: Arceussequel set in the Johto region is not a new idea, but Minor_Devil expands on it by adding that it should include the Pokemon that were cut duringPokemon Gold and Silver’s development. Presumably, aPokemon Legendsgame set in the Johto region would take place in the far past, and so there could be lore reasons for why these Pokemon don’t exist in the Johto region’s future.

This is the approach thatPokemon Legends: Arceustakes with the new Pokemon that it introduces to the franchise.Pokemon Legends: Arceusis set in an ancient version of the Sinnoh region, and so it features Pokemon and Pokemon variants that no longer exist come the events ofPokemon Diamond and Pearl.
There were manycut Pokemon fromGold and Silverthat would not only work great as brand-new Pokemon, but could also serve as variants for existing Pokemon. For example, there was a different version of the Pokemon that would become Tangrowth, not to mention a variety of baby Pokemon that evolved into Pokemon originally seen inPokemon Red and Blue.
Besides the potential to incorporate these cutPokemon Gold and SilverPokemon into the franchise’s lore, aPokemon Legendsgame set in the Johto region would make sense for other reasons as well. Previously, a fan proposed that the next game in thePokemon Legendsseries be calledPokemon Legends: Celebiand explore the Johto region, as the region has enough ancient landmarks and locations that would serve aPokemon Legends-style game well.
For now, there are no confirmed plans for aPokemon Legendssequel. Game Freak is busy working onPokemon Scarlet and Violet, though the popularity ofPokemon Legends: Arceusmakes it seem as though chances are good that the concept will be revisited at some point down the line. Maybe fans will get a full-blown sequel, or maybe they will have to settle for aPokemon Legends: ArceusDLC expansioninstead.
Pokemon Legends: Arceusis available now, exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
