Niantic and The Pokemon Company releasedPokemon GOback in 2016 and since then the game has been improved in many ways and more generations of Pokemon have been added. One such improvement made to the game since its launch is the trading feature, but Niantic has temporarily disabled the ability for players to exchange Pokemon.
Trading is an integral part of thePokemonexperience in nearly every title in the franchise and that’s no different with the mobilePokemon GO.Pokemon GOfans have been able to trade Pokemon with each other since last year, but Niantic has stated that a glitch associated with the feature has been causing issues that inspired the team to remove the ability for players to trade with each other while it investigates the problem. Niantic didn’t specify what caused the removal of trading fromPokemon GO, but a recent Reddit post hints at a glitch that gives players an increased likelihood of getting Lucky Pokemon from trades.

Reddit user AndKrem recently shared an image of Pokemon acquired throughtrading inPokemon GOthat were all Lucky Pokemon due to a glitch associated with Lucky Friends in the augmented reality game. According to AndKrem, they were able to acquire 100 Lucky Pokemon from exactly that manyPokemon GOtrades. The accuracy of these numbers showed that AndKrem was able to ensure that eachPokemon GOtrade resulted in one of the rarer Lucky Pokemon rather than a standard Pokemon.
WhileNiantichasn’t clarified what caused the removal of trading, manyPokemon GOfans are speculating that AndKrem’s Reddit post was seen by developers before its removal. It’s currently unclear when trading will return toPokemon GO, but Niantic has apologized to players for the inconvenience while it’s gone. Because Lucky Pokemon have better IVs than standard Pokemon and they require less Stardust to raise, this trading glitch may have been exploited by morePokemon GOplayers than AndKrem before Niantic discovered the issue.
WhenPokemon GOplayers trade with Lucky Friends, the Lucky Friend typically reverts to being a Best Friend, but it seems like AndKrem has ensured a way to prevent it from changing. Without the Lucky Friend status,Pokemon GOfans have slightly more than a 5% chance of receiving a Lucky Pokemon, but Lucky Friends are guaranteed totrade a Lucky Pokemonfor one transaction. In order to be Lucky Friends,Pokemon GOplayers have to complete specific friendship actions with a Best Friends so that they can trade Lucky Pokemon.
Pokemon GOis available right now for Android and iOS.
