Epic Games has a new free-to-play battle royale game coming soon. Over the past several months, developerIron Galaxyhas been holding several increasingly large playtests for its battle royale,Rumbleverse. These tests have drawn a significant amount of attention toRumbleverse, which stands out with its unique pro-wrestling-themed action gameplay. It’s worked out so well that Iron Galaxy feels confident enough to fully launchRumbleversesooner than expected.Rumbleversewill now officially launch on August 11 and will be available on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox. As promised,Rumbleversewill be launching as afree-to-play game, so all interested players will be able to download and play once the game goes live on launch day. There are no codes required. Iron Galaxy had previously said that it planned to have an early access period before fulling launching the game, but playtests have persuaded the team to fully launch straight away.RELATED:Iron Galaxy Studios Hires David ‘DeeJ’ Dague as Head of CommunicationAs promised, Iron Galaxy will also be delivering a long-awaited featured coinciding with thelaunch ofRumbleverse. Playtests so far have revolved around single-player action, but players have been asking for group queues, too. Launch will see the delivery of Duos so that two players can join a match together. It’s a missed opportunity to call it Tag Teams, but at least friends can soon group up. There’s no word on three or four-player queues yet.
One other announcement made alongside today’sRumbleverserelease date reveal is Iron Galaxy’s plans for Season One. Thefirst season ofRumbleverse’s live servicewill be slightly delayed from launch if only to allow Iron Galaxy to address any unexpected major concerns. Season One will start one week after release and will includeRumbleverse’s first Battle Pass, packed full of Locker Room cosmetics. Full details about the Battle Pass have yet to be confirmed, but it’s unlikely to deviate from the norm.
Regarding some various housekeeping information, Iron Galaxy has confirmed thatRumbleversewill support crossplay between all platforms. Those playing on console will also be able to access the game without paying for online subscriptions likeXbox Live Goldor PlayStation Plus. Since the game is free-to-play, it will be monetized in various ways. An in-game cosmetic shop has already been confirmed, in addition to the battle pass.
Rumbleverse’s quickly-approaching launch is going to surprise even its fans. In many ways, it feels likeRumbleversehas yet to be properly debuted to a broader audience. While there’s been some attention surrounding its playtests, it hasn’t necessarily gone virally popular or anything of the sort. There are also questions regarding post-launch support forRumbleverse. A Battle Pass with cosmetics is one thing, but there’s no word on whetherRumbleverse’s map will change, if there’s a story to be told, or any other typical battle royale content necessary for long-term player retention. Hopefully, more information will be shared ahead of August.
Rumbleversereleases August 11 on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
