AStar Warsdeath does not necessarily mean death, just ask Samuel L. Jackson. He recently discussed the idea of Jedi master Mace Windu making a long-awaited comeback to the far away galaxy, though the actor has his mind set onThe Mandalorianbeing the specificStar Warsproduction he’d like to crash.
Mace Windu was first introduced inStar Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menaceas part of the Jedi High Council and stayed on for the entirety of the prequel trilogy before he met his end at the hands of Emperor Palpatine inRevenge of the Sith. However, considering the circumstances that led to a certain bounty hunter rising from the dead inThe Book of Boba Fett, as well as Jackson’s own love for the role, the actor touched upon the matter in a recent podcast appearance.

In the latestHappy Sad Confusedepisode, Jackson told host Josh Horowitz, “There’s a huge history of people with one hand returning inStar Wars.” This of course refers to his character’s painful dismembering before being pushed out the window to a near-certain death. And yet, to many listeners surprise, Jackson himself has entertained the idea in the past withThe Mandaloriandirector Bryce Dallas Howard, to whom he directly pitched his return, saying, “Do you think maybe you could hook a brother up? I’ll learn the lightsaber left-handed!”
Of course, it’s not like Jackson actually needs the job or something since the actor is already doing pretty well for himself as a key piece of Disney’s other big player. This is especially true now that his ownSecret Invasionspinoff is teasing MCU fanswith what’s to come. Nevertheless, Jackson clearly holds the Mace Windu role very close to his heart, as shown during last year’s May the Fourth, when he flaunted a few items from his impressive t-shirt collection.
Recently, it became known thatPhantom Menacevillain Darth Maul was originallymeant to reappear in theObi-Wan Kenobiseries, before being ultimately cut out, which might bode well for any future Mace Windu revival. The iconic purple lightsaber just happens to be one of the many things that made Mace Windu one of the most beloved characters of the prequel trilogy, and given the modern wonders of CGI, Jackson’s age should hardly be a prohibitive factor if writers would ever decide to bring him back to life.
The Book of Boba Fettwas the latest example of this for Lucasfilm, as the series proved it learned its lessons with a much-improved Luke Skywalker cameo. In any case, even if Mace Windu never comes back, fans are always happy toput Samuel L. Jackson inElden Ringtoo.
The Mandalorianseason 1-2 are now available on Disney Plus.
