Besides featuring final girl Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell) and making audiences laugh at almost every turn, theScreamfranchise takes on horror tropes, making fun of the things that tend to happen in scary movies. Fans are used to seeing characters run around their house when the killer shows up instead of actually attempting to escape, and it’s common to see people proclaim “I’ll be right back” before investigating a noise and then getting killed.

WhenScream 6is released in 2023, fans know that even more horror tropes will be part of the story, and there are a few that seem perfect for the latest installment.

TheScreammovies have used countless horror movie tropes.Sidney is a final girl, there are catchphrases in each film, and characters who have sex die.Scream (2022)continues the tradition of talking about horror movie rules by taking on the requel. Wes Hicks (Dylan Minnette) even gets murdered while taking a shower, a nod toPsycho.

It seems like every potential horror trope has been used in aScreammovie, and soScream 6can definitely revisit some tropes that it has used in the past, but in an intelligent way that feels fresh and new.Scream 6should poke fun at jump scares and deaths that take place in a basement. While theScreammovies aren’t that scary, jump scares are a controversial horror movie feature, and it would be funny ifScream 6poked fun at this trope by including some fake jump scares and then a really good one.

A kill in a basement would also work since it never gets old or tired. This trope achieves exactly what theslasher franchisewants to: make audiences laugh and scream at the big or small screen because a character is doing something silly that is a terrible idea and is going to get them murdered. It’s funny to think that characters still make this kind of choice, but they do, and it’s always going to be entertaining.

There are a few other horror tropes thatScream 6should explore. For one thing, a huge and intense party should definitely happen. The big party scene inScreamis one of the best parts of the film, as Randy Meeks (Jamie Kennedy) talks about horror movie rules, and the huge reveal happens with Billy Loomis (Skeet Ulrich) and Stu Macher (Matthew Lillard).Scream (2022)features a massive party at Stu’s house, which is a smart way of bringing the movies together. It seems impossible for the next film not to include this type of scene. If the movie features new teenagers, then this is definitely a no-brainer.

Whenfans think about what they want inScream 6, the “creepy neighbor” trope also seems like a good idea. MaybeScream 6can partly take place in Sidney’s new town and fans can see her family life. Perhaps Sidney has a neighbor who is sweet to her but who audiences can tell is a terrible person and who might be connected to Ghostface. This would allow the new film to talk about who Sidney is now and also introduce a potentially interesting new character. Fans love the teens inScream (2022), especially Tara Carpenter, asJenna Ortega is a talented horror actress. While it would be fine ifScream 6has some new high schoolers, it would also be cool to feature a character around Sidney’s age. Most likely the neighbor would be innocent and a red herring, but that works since that’s a common feature of scary stories.

There’s also aninteresting horror tropecalled “Horror Doesn’t Settle for Simple Tuesday,” which means that the story happens during a holiday or special occasion. Since none of theScreammovies have happened during Christmas or summer break, it would definitely be fun to see aScreamfilm in this type of setting. At the very least, this would feel new and unique. Sidney is always suffering so much in every movie, and it would be great to see her excited for the winter holidays and having a great time.

While of course fans don’t know what type of filmScream 6will be, since sequels, trilogies, reboots, and requels have all been done now, theScreamfranchise has done an impressive job of keeping each new film relevant and fascinating. Fans know thatScream 6will feature some common horror tropes in the franchise’s typical funny tone and it won’t disappoint in that regard. TheScreamfranchise proves that the more things change, the more they stay the same as fans can always expect and look forward to a smart dissection of horror movie tropes.
