Tails of Ironis defined by its many challenging boss battles, the first of which is Lans Alut, leader of the Bog Brothers. Although Redgi’s brother Dennis and the frog fighter Clubba are technically considered bosses, they are more or less tutorials for Lans Alut. This enemy will require players to put everything they know aboutdodging, blocking, and parrying inTails of Ironto good use, and even then, players will need a great deal of determination in order to come out victorious. Though he may seem insurmountable at first, he can be beaten if players know how to face him.

As with other games in this genre, the key to beating bosses inTails of Ironis to carefully study their moves, learn the best ways to counter them and find the right time to strike back. The same holds true for Lans Alut, so players may need to take on each of his phases several times before they are ready to take him down for good.

Lans Alut - Phase 1

For the first phase of the fight, Lans Alut has two attacks.

For his first attack, Lans Alut jumps into the air with a red circle warning before the attack and then crashes back down, dealing heavy damage if the player is too close. To avoid this, roll away from Lans Alut, creating distance between him and Redgi. When he lands, he is open to a few attacks.

Lans Alut may instead point his spear at the player and charge forward with a yellow warning. For this attack, wait until he is close and thenparry with L2and press R2. This will knock him down briefly, leaving him vulnerable to the player’s attacks. The timing on this can be somewhat difficult at first, as Lans Alut will run up to the player, stop, and then attack. Wait for him to start his attack before parrying.

Lans Alut Between Phases

After taking down a chunk of Lans Alut’s health bar, he will pull out his horn and summon minions. Though it is tempting toattack him during this animation, he is completely immune to damage while blowing his horn. After he jumps away, he will spawn some regular frog enemies that the player should be familiar with if they made it this far into the game. Take them out, and he will return for the next phase.

Lans Alut - Phase 2

Phase 2 of the Lans Alut boss fight is nearly identical to the first phase, with the addition of one more move. Lans Alut will point his spear slightly upward and let out a shrill cry accompanied by a warning of four red lines. This indicates he is going to lunge at the player, which is most easily dodged by dashing or rolling toward him to get behind him. After he lands, the player should take the opportunity to do a bit of damage oruse Bug Juice to heal.

Lans Alut - Phase 3

For the final phase of the fight, Lans Alut loses his headgear, and his eyes glaze over. His moves are all the same, with one key exception, his jump attack is now much more powerful. When Lans Alut leaps into the air, he will leave the screen entirely. Look carefully, and players will see falling leaves that show where he is going to slam back down to the ground. Be sure to avoid this area to prevent taking unnecessary damage. Lans Alut also recovers from this move very quickly, so it isn’t usually worth trying to get any hits in here. He is also muchmore aggressive in his final phasein general, so the safest time to attack is after parrying his lance charge attack.

After his health is fully depleted, approach Lans Alut and press R3 to finish him off. With the Bog Brother defeated, players can continue onward through the story to rescue their brother, the Chef, repair Long Tail Village, and drive the Frog scourge out.Tails of Ironplayers should save the game afterwardso the boss doesn’t need to be repeated
