It was months after, and he had watched the film. And I have the deepest respect for Henry Cavill. He’s an icon. Obviously, our Superman.” Sashe enthusiastically asked Cavill if she did him well. “Do you approve? Does Superman approve? Does the cuz approve?” Calle recalls asking, to which Cavill replied, “It’s Superman approved.”
Calle expanded on this sentiment by stating that she “watchedMan of Steelmultiple times” and expressed how Cavill’s approval meant a lot to her. “That was just a kind human, man. He really was like ‘Well done.’ And that meant the world to me, you know?" It is unknown if the version Calle and Cavill had watched was afterJames Gunn cut Superman fromThe Flashending or if it was the version from before Warner Bros. made changes. However, seeing how Cavill’s Superman is no more, Calle and Cavill’s meeting makes for a bittersweet interaction that marks the end of an era for this generation’s Man of Steel.
This exchange meant a lot to Calle, which is a sentiment that some fans can relate to. The public discourse surrounding the story has been a combination of fans embracing Calle as Supergirl and anger from those who believe Warner Bros. Fans would have to imagine that Calle’s debut as Supergirl inThe Flashis bittersweet as well, seeing as how reports suggest thatSupergirl had a spinoff film previously plannedthat would have seen Supergirl and Superman team up, and even a rumored Supergirl HBO MAX series that would have featured Michael Keaton’s Batman. It is unknown if any of this will come to fruition under Gunn, who is moving forward with his contributions to the DCEU, such asPeacemakerandWaller, while seemingly creating a soft reboot around everything else. Even so,The Flashdoing well financially could still open doors that not only include the possibility of Calle continuing as Supergirl at some point, but possibly evenBatman Beyondwith Keaton and Zack Snyder’sFlashpoint, which would see the return of Cavill as Superman in an alternate timeline.
