Tom Hiddleston revealed his opinions on Matt Damon returning to play fake Loki in Marvel Studios’Thor: Love and Thunder. The upcomingThorsequel wrapped filming in Australia earlier this month and is expected to premiere in 2022.

Last year, Oscar Award-winning actor Christian Bale signed on to play the villainous Gorr the God Butcher.

Hiddleston, who has appeared as Thor’s devious foster brother Loki in six Marvel films to date, was recently asked about his thoughts onDamon reprising his role as the fake Lokifor the nextThorsequel. While he doesn’t have any say on the character, Hiddleston thought Damon’s performance in Thor:Ragnarokwas hilarious. “Well, I have no ownership as you know. [Laughs] Loki contains multitudes, and he contains Matt Damon,” said Hiddleston, while adding, “And his take on the whole thing was just hilarious, so I can’t wait to see what they’ve been doing.” InRagnarok, Damon made a surprise cameo in which he played an Asgardian actor playing Loki alongside Luke Hemsworth’s Thor and Sam Neill’s Odin.
While Hiddleston has confirmed that he won’t appear inThor 4, the 40-year-old actor is currently starring in theDisney Plus seriesLoki. The six-episode show takes place following the events ofAvengers: Endgameand centers on an alternate version of Loki who is asked by the Time Variance Authority (TVA) to fix timelines he broke. The cast includes Gugu Mbatha-Raw as Ravonna Lexus Renslayer, Wunmi Mosaku as Hunter B-15, and Owen Wilson as Mobius M. Mobius.Lokihead writer Michael Waldron has teased that the series will feature unexpected Marvel cameos.
The series has earned positive early reviews from critics, with many have praisingHiddleston and Wilson’s leading performancesand the captivating time-travel mystery storyline.Lokiis striving to build off of the success ofThe Falcon and the Winter Soldier, which wrapped its first season in April and had the most-watched series premiere for Disney Plus. The God of Mischief first appeared in 1962’sJourney into Mystery#85 and was created by legendary Marvel writer Stan Lee, scripter Larry Lieber, and penciler Jack Kirby.
Lokiis one of several Marvel shows that will be released on the streaming service over the next few years. Jeremy Renner is set to reprise his role as Clint Barton in Jonathan Igla’sHawkeye. Meanwhile,Secret Invasionis basedon an eight-issue limited series comic with the same name and will focus on Ben Mendelsohn’s Talos and Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury.
Thor: Love and Thunderis scheduled to be released in theatres on August 09, 2025.
