Modder rolopogo has brought mobile crafting stations to the Viking RPG,Valheim. Their mod, Crafty Carts, offers players the chance to build settlements as well as repair their equipment on the go.

As a survival title,Valheimasks players to travel to the different regions of the world, gather supplies and resources, and build bases to level up their equipment. To build wood and stone structures, the workbench and stonecutter have to be built and to repair tools the former and the forge have to be leveled up with add-ons. They each have a limited range, however, resulting in players being forced to build multiple crafting stations for larger builds or constantly destroying and rebuilding the same one in multiple places.

This mod addresses those issues by placing the workbench, forge, and stone cutter on wheels thus eliminating the restrictions players typically associate these stations with.Crafty Carts essentially combines the respective stationwith the in-game cart and cost the player the same price as the original plus 10 bronze nails. Thus far this mod has seen over 400 downloads and was released just a couple of days ago on April 27th. Notably missing from the mod is a cooking station cart but the mod author mentions that it has been considered.

Valheimhas been quite popular since its releasethis year and mods have been quite a frequent occurrence. As it remains in Early Access, this title has an update roadmap for the rest of the year that might see some of the things these mods target be resolved. For now, Crafty Carts is the only option for those who want crafting capabilities on the go and the only major complaint from players has been that these crafty carts are more top-heavy than regular carts.

Valheimhas an interesting worldand its survival and building system are equal parts rewarding and punishing. But there is room for improvement and rolopogo has hit the nail on the head with this mod. Preventing specific metals from being teleported is one thing but the vanilla game often leads to players having to travel far to gather materials only to then be forced back to their base to repair their tools. This mod eases that burden without greatly impacting the survival aspect.

But it is always a careful balance when adding new content to a game that relies on challenging its players and making life a bit difficult. The grinding is often part of the appeal as reaching new regions and forging better armor only feels rewarding after a struggle. It seems though that rolopogo has found that right balance and added something that even the developers wouldn’t mind too much intheir next update Hearth and Home.
