Pokemon Scarlet and Violetnews has to come out any day now. Given that the newPokemongeneration and starters was revealed over two months ago now and the likely fact thatPokemon Scarlet and Violet’s release dateis roughly six months away, it’s about time Game Freak showcases some more elements of the game. Whether that’s at aPokemon-focused Nintendo Direct or an E3-like Nintendo Direct Showcase this summer remains to be seen, but it has to be on the near horizon.

In the meantime, fans have dissected the Pokemon Scarlet and Violet trailer, speculated on the starters, and more. Many are split on what the final design of Fuecoco could be like, such as a Fire/Ghost-type based on a Ghost Pepper or a Fire/Steel-type based on a Cucafera. Many are confident, however, thatQuaxly could become a Water/Fighting-type, while Sprigatito will become a Grass/Fairy-type. The reasoning behind all of these adds up pretty well.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Trailer May Hint at Starters’ Final Designs

There isone scene in thePokemon Scarlet and Violettrailerthat almost immediately captured a ton of fan attention. When the protagonist is shown in their home, presumably early in the game, there are a couple of paintings on the wall. These include a bowl of food, a flamenco dancer, and a windmill, and at first glance, these may not mean much. However, it is easy to draw parallels with each of the starter Pokemon.

For the bowl of food, Fuecoco clearly has a food-based design inPokemon Scarlet and Violet. It’s a little gimmicky, but ifFuecoco is based on a Cucafera, the food makes sense because these are often seen at festivals. It wouldn’t be surprising to see Fuecoco launching burning food from its shell or, perhaps, just having a knack for burnt food.

Many believed that Quaxly was based on Don Quixote, and it makes a lot of sense. Quaxly has a certain squire look about him, and it would make sense for that to carry through a final Water/Fighting-typed Knight-based Quaxly. Not only does this supportQuaxly’s Don Quixote connection inPokemon Scarlet and Violet, but it also connects to the windmill. In the story, Don Quixote will attack a windmill believing it’s a giant, and it’s a famous scene from the narrative. Thus, Quaxly could evolve into a full-blown knight.

By process of elimination, if nothing else, that leavesPokemon Scarlet and Violet’s Flamenco dancer for Sprigatito. This is a bit of a double-edged sword, though, if true. This means Sprigatito’s final evolution would almost certainly become bipedal, but it also seriously puts Fairy-type on the table.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet: Sprigatito and Flamenco

While the prospect of Sprigatitio being bipedal may be disappointing, basing Sprigatito on a flamenco dancer is a cool connection toPokemon Scarlet and Violet’s Spanish origins. What that exactly looks like remains to be seen, but it’s easy to imagine a flower-based feline with a dancing stance. It’s even likely that the Starter-specific move for the region is based on some form of flowery dance attack.

With flamenco being a dance andmost Fairy Pokemontapping into the cuteness, innocence, and sometimes feminine qualities, it adds up. Now, Game Freak could take this in an entirely different direction inPokemon Scarlet and Violet, but it does seem like a solid flow chart: Grass-Starter Cat—Flamenco connections—Grass/Fairy final form. Sprigatito’s Pokedex entry also suggests it loves attention, and dancing is definitely one way to be the center of attention.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet: Sprigatito’s Final Grass/Fairy Evolution Makes Beautiful Symmetry

Sprigatito’s final evolution inPokemon Scarlet and Violetwouldn’t be the only Grass/Fairy Pokemon either, adding a lot of dimension and ways to look at this as a possibility. But perhaps the most interesting aspect is how all the current starter theories go hand in hand. In other words, there’s a solid chance Fuecoco is Fire/Steel, Quaxly is Water/Fighting, and Sprigatito is Grass/Fairy. If so, there’s a beautiful symmetry in these typings.

Everyone already knows that Sprigatito will be effective against Quaxly, Quaxly against Fuecoco, and Fuecoco against Sprigatito due to the Fire/Water/Grass approach. But the aforementioned, rumoredPokemon Scarlet and Violettypingsfit in well.

Fairy is effective against fighting, giving Sprigatito even better effectiveness against Quaxly and additional weaknesses to Fuecoco’s Steel typing. Quaxly’s secondary Fighting type would add another layer of effectiveness against Fuecoco’s Fire/Steel, but as aforementioned, make it weaker to Sprigatito’s Fairy typing. And Fuecoco’s Fire/Steel would be even more effective against Sprigatito’s Grass/Fairy and even weaker to Quaxly’s Water/Fighting.

How it ultimately shakes out remains to be seen, but that’s a beautiful Starter trio type combination that would likely be hard for Game Freak to ignore inPokemon Scarlet and Violet.
