In retailWorld of Warcraft, adventurers always have a goal to work towards when playing. While raiding and PvP might not be some heroes' favorite pastimes, getting new mounts is a hobby that can be pursued casually or even take up most of an avid collector’s time. Although there should be plenty of new mounts to find whenShadowlandsreleases later in 2020, the current content gap means players can work on collecting the rest ofBattle for Azeroth’smounts including several alpacas.
Alpacas were first introduced atBfA’slaunch during questing in Vol’dun. Their unique model, adorable animations, and role as companions to theVulperamade alpacas an instant hit, but the community was quickly disappointed to learn there was no way to obtain one as a mount. However, Blizzard listened to this request since Patch 8.3 added 3 ways to get an alpaca as a ground mount. While some previous rare mounts involved killing the creature, players will be thankful to hear that they don’t have to hurt a hair on any alpaca.

Elusive Quickhoof
The Elusive Quickhoof is a black-colored alpaca mount that can be obtained from Vol’dun. An NPC with the same name will rarely spawn at various points across the entire zone for a short period of time indicated by the ‘Wanderlust’ buff. However, being lucky enough to find the Elusive Quickhoof isn’t enough to earn its trust. Instead, players need to be carrying some ‘Seaside Leafy Greens Mix’ which opens up a new dialogue option to feed the alpaca. Note that the item can be purchased from Tortollan vendors across Zandalar and Kul Tiras as well as theBrutosaur mount. After feeding the Elusive Quickhoof, it will automatically deposit the ‘Reins of the Elusive Quickhoof’ into a player’s bags.
Springfur Alpaca
Similarly, the Springfur Alpaca is a golden alpaca mount that is rewarded from feeding the ‘Friendly Alpaca’ NPC inUldum during any assault. But instead of vendor food, the Friendly Alpaca only eats ‘Gersahl Greens’ which randomly spawn near the river that cuts through Uldum. Furthermore, the NPC will only join after feeding it in the daily quest ‘Alpaca It Up’ 7 times. With this in mind, players must gather 7 stacks of the plant and search for the Friendly Alpaca across its many spawn points for at least 1 week. After eating one last time, it will offer the ‘Alpaca It In’ quest that awards ‘Reins of the Springfur Alpaca’.
Mollie
On the other hand, Mollie is a brown variant of the alpaca that isn’t earned by feeding an NPC. Instead, this mount can drop as a ‘Slightly Damp Pile of Fur’ from Dunegorger Kraulok, aWorld of Warcraftworld boss in Vol’dun. While this simplifies how players obtain Mollie, Dunegorger Kraulok is on a rotation with 5 otherBfAworld bosses and only appears once every 6 weeks. July 15th was the last time Dunegorger Kraulok was up, so players should ready all the max level characters they have for when this undead dinosaur returns soon.
Because of the effort required to obtain these mounts, there are often custom groups in LFG full of characters waiting at each spawn to ensure as many people can feed the Elusive Quickhoof and Friendly Alpaca as possible. But once everyone moves ontoShadowlandscontent, the number of players and groups looking for alcapas should significantly decrease. Since getting 2 of the mounts will become much harder in the future, it’s never a better time to work on finding them right now.
