Summary

The next majorWorld of Warcraft: Dragonflightcontent update, Guardians of the Dream, will give players a new way to obtain specific currencies used to upgrade their weapons and armor. On the public test realm (PTR), someWorld of Warcraftplayers datamined a few new items that will give upgraded Crests, but the new items had a few caveats that players provided feedback on.

Starting in Patch 10.1, Embers of Neltharion,World of Warcraftimplemented the Shadowflame Crest system as a way for players to upgrade the item levels and statistics of gear obtained during season 2 ofDragonflight. These Shadowflame Crests were then classified into four themed categories, called Whelpling, Drake, Wyrm, and Aspect. CasualWoWplayers could only obtain the first two of those levels via world quests and the dungeon finder, while the latter two were reserved for those who participated in Heroic and Mythic Raids, as well as Mythic Keystone Dungeons. InWorld of WarcraftPatch 10.1.7, Fury Incarnate, a new method was added that allowed players who took part in Dreamsurges to earn a Wyrm’s Shadowflame Crest once per week. While these methods allow players to upgrade their gear a little more, some players claimed that the additions were not nearly enough.

On the PTR for Patch 10.2,Guardians of the Dream, a fewWorld of Warcraftdataminers uncovered some Satchels of Dreaming Crests that could be made available in the update. With Shadowflame Crests being tied to Patch 10.1, the new Dreaming Crests will supersede them in Patch 10.2 as the main method for upgrading gear. At the time of writing, it is currently not known where the vendor for these Satchels will be located and what the exchange rate of Crests will be for converting Drake’s Crests to Wyrm’s Crests and so on. In addition, the Crests will no longer take up Reagent Bag space in Patch 10.2, as those have been confirmed by Blizzard to be moving to the currency tab.

After learning of this new datamine, someWorld of Warcraftplayers providedfeedback on the Guardians of the DreamPTR about it. While some players said the new method is an overdue but welcome change, otherWorld of Warcraftplayers said that the Crests and Satchels should be account-bound in order for alternate characters to get geared up, while a few called for Blizzard to return to past systems such as Valor Points.

Between the features coming in Patch 10.2, andrumors surrounding the nextWorld of Warcraftexpansion, it is a busy time forWoWplayers. It remains to be seen what Blizzard will do in response to feedback about these currency updates.
