Part of what has made content creators onYouTubeso popular with younger generations is how relatable influencers can be. They may be creating commercial work, but in doing so they offer a lens into their real lives. That, unfortunately, includes sad and frightening moments inYouTubers' lives in, too, as is the case with a recent iJustine health scare. iJustine recently shared details about an emergency she went through that required her being rushed to the hospital for multiple procedures.
Speaking with Today,iJustineexplained that earlier this year the YouTuber woke up to her arm feeling numb. The symptom initially went away, but returned later that week and was more severe which lead to swelling to the point of turning her arm purple. iJustine described it as her arm swelling to the point she “couldn’t even flex” it, describing her bicep as being so massive it was like she was “shredded from the gym.” At that point, iJustine couldn’t put off having a doctor look at it and drove to an emergency clinic.

Unfortunately, theYouTuber’s medical issueproved to be much more serious than her now-joking tone may imply. The nurse at the emergency clinic quickly told her she needed to go to an emergency department given the severity of the issue. Once there, she was told she had deep vein thrombosis and a blood clot affecting her arm. While the DVT itself isn’t life-threatening, the blood clot was significant enough for doctors to worry it could shift from the YouTuber’s arm to her heart or brain.
iJustine was put on blood thinners and ultimately underwent a thrombectomy to remove the blood clot. The first thrombectomy failed to remove the entire blood clot, so the procedure was repeated. According to the YouTuber, she was bedridden throughout the process and unable to move her arms due to the thrombectomy catheter in one arm and needles in the other. iJustine ultimately spent four days in bed without moving. She documented her emergency hospital visit on herYouTube channel.
Even with two thrombectomies, iJustine’s procedures didn’t go entirely according to plan. A piece of the blood clot did move within her body, moving to her lungs and developing into a pulmonary embolism. She ended up lucky, as the pulmonary embolism was treatable with blood thinners.
The day before her symptoms started, iJustine explains she ran seven miles. She went from daily activity to bedridden dealing with a very serious medical problem. It just goes to show that anything can happen.YouTubers are humanand just as likely to face medical issues as anyone else. iJustine has since been diagnosed as having thoracic outlet syndrome, which has resulted in compressed blood vessels near her top rib. Five months later iJustine’s health is improved, but she’s considering getting surgery to remove part of her rib for her long-term health. She tells fans of her YouTube channel, “I hate that this happened to me, but I’m so glad I have this platform to be able to let people know.”
