There is still no estimated release date on the horizon for Zack Snyder’sRebel Moon, but the film sure is building a ton of hype thanks to the news regarding the project. This is especially thanks to Snyder’s own social media updates, which now tease a new look into this newly crafted sci-fi world.

This approach is not foreign to Snyder, who spent much of the pandemic sharing snippets of his own reworkedJustice League, a film that ultimately caused the director’s stock to rise, just like his return to the realm of zombies inNetflix’sArmy of the Dead. As for his sci-fi epic, the film has already booked top-notch talent with the likes ofAnthony Hopkins joining theRebel Mooncastand some pretty awe-inspiring artwork.

In this case,Rebel Moon’s latest teaser comes in the form of a rather intimidating alien figure. During Netflix’s Geeked Week event, Snyder posted a makeup test shot taken from his phone. If there’s one thing to draw from this short video, it’s thatRebel Moonwill definitely cater to the darkand gloomy aesthetic that’s made Snyder famous in Hollywood, because this particular clip almost looks as if it could be one of Steppenwolf or Darkseid’s minions thrown into a different world.

Rebel Moon’s screenplay was co-written by Shay Hatten (Army of the Dead), Kurt Johnstad (300), and Snyder. The film pairs up the director with some familiar talent like Ray Fisher, who joins a cast made up of Sofia Boutella, Charlie Hunnam, Djimon Hounsou, Doona Bae, Staz Nair, Alfonso Herrera, and the aforementioned Hopkins in full robot capacity. The film takes place in a remote space colony suddenly threatened by its tyrannous overlord Belisarius, as its inhabitants and warriors from other planets set out to resist the tyrant’s forces.

As of now,Rebel Moonis the only project on the Snyder’s pipeline, which might seem like quite a shame for the fans who programmed bots to ensure bothArmy of the DeadandZack Snyder’s Justice Leagueconquered the fan vote categories in this year’s Oscars ceremony. That honor was likelytaken fromSpider-Man: No Way Home, whose extended cut will be heading to theaters come September.

According toeverything known aboutRebel Moonso far, it appears to be one of Netflix’s growing bets on the sci-fi genre, as the company continues to endure an adjustment period following its severe stock market losses and the cancellation of many ongoing projects, though it really doesn’t take money to make great sci-fi movies.
