Summary
An online debate aboutZelda: Tears of the Kingdomis making fans see one of Pixar’s most iconic villains in a new light, thanks to one of the armor sets in the game. The armor in question is usually not talked about much, but may become a fan favorite inThe Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdomif the conversation gets any bigger.
Link’s ability to wear different armor pieces is nothing new in Zelda games. However,Tears of the Kingdomtook this idea to a whole new level with over30 different armor sets inTears of the Kingdom, each one giving link a certain amount of defense and abilities. Each piece of armor in the game can be upgraded up to four times, and wearing specific armor will grant Link a “set bonus” that can give him a major advantage on the battlefield. For players tired of getting killed in the game after a few hits, choosing the right armor set will help immensely.

Recently, one particular armor set has grabbed some fans' attention. Reddit user _Blupee mentioned an observation that their kid made about the Phantom Armor suit, posting a picture of the suit next to Zurg from theToy Storyfranchise. ThePhantom Armor suit inTears of the Kingdomis actually based on the Phantoms found inThe Legend of Zelda: Phantom HourglassandThe Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks. This armor set made its debut in the DLC forThe Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wildand carried over toTears of the Kingdom. Showing the Phantom Armor suit next to Zurg really highlights the resemblance, especially with the eyes.
Toy Storyfans will remember Zurg as the arch-nemesis of Buzz Lightyear, with the character loosely based on Darth Vader from the Star Wars franchise. In the fictional “Buzz Lightyear of Star Command” universe (a show within theToy Storymovies), Zur is betrayed as an evil emperor seeking to control the entire galaxy. It’s interesting that no one noticed that the Phantoms in theZeldaseries resembled Zurg until now, as they’ve been around long before thePhantom Suit made its return toTears of the Kingdom.
The one element missing from the Phantom Armor suit is Zurg’s cape. But as one Reddit commenter pointed out, adding the cloak from theEvil Spirit set inTears of the Kingdomwould result in the perfect look.
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdomis available on Nintendo Switch.
